WHAT IS FSA VERIFICATION?
Verification is a review process where the university determines the accuracy of various data elements reported on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Each year, the U.S. Department of Education FAFSA Processing System (FPS) selects a random population of applicants for a process called verification. The school must verify applications selected by FPS for students who will receive, or have received, subsidized funding which includes the Federal Pell Grant and subsidized loans. Regulations require that we complete verification prior to packaging and disbursing Federal Student Aid (FSA).
If you are chosen for verification:
Your FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS) will have an asterisk (*) next to your Student Aid Index (SAI) along with comments notifying you that you have been selected.
The school will notify you to:
- Advise that you have been selected for verification.
- Request documents required to complete verification; and
- Inform you on the outcome of verification and your aid eligibility.
The My Financial Aid Office portal in the ecampus is the primary communication point for information about your FAFSA verification and aid eligibility. It is important to monitor your online financial aid office portal regularly for information.
Verification Deadline
The deadline for the school to perform verification is either 120 days from the last date of enrollment or the Department of Education published deadline for the award year, whichever comes first.
Additional Review
To protect our students and the integrity of our institution, APUS reserves the right to select any student record for verification and additional review.
